Vintage Necklace with Antique Hand-Carved Nephrite Jade Head Beads, Carnelian & Quartzite – 21 Inch Statement Jewelry
21" necklace with antique carved nephrite jade heads, carnelian cylinders up to 24 × 11.5 mm, and blue-green quartzite beads – bold collectible jewelry.
This striking necklace blends hand-carved artistry with natural stone. Measuring approximately 21 inches long, it features:
Carved Head Beads: Six fully sculpted nephrite jade heads, each about 22 × 17 mm, carved in the round with joyful expressions ranging from broad smiles to gentler grins. These heads display the fibrous texture, waxy luster, and softened patina associated with antique jade carving (likely late 19th to early 20th century). Unlike common flat mask beads, these are complete heads, each uniquely expressive, serving both artistic and symbolic roles as auspicious protective figures.
Blue-Green Beads: Round quartzite beads (commonly marketed as aventurine), approx. 9–10 mm, semi-translucent with a natural crystalline texture.
Carnelian Cylinders: Warm carnelian agate beads with natural banding, the largest reaching 24 mm long and 11.5 mm wide, adding vivid contrast and dramatic scale.
Total Length: Approximately 21 inches (matinee length), strung on sturdy cord with a simple hook clasp. The necklace itself appears to have been assembled in the mid-20th century, incorporating older carved jade heads with carnelian and quartzite spacers.
The combination of antique nephrite jade carvings, substantial carnelian cylinders, and cool-toned quartzite makes this necklace both culturally significant and highly collectible.
Condition
Good vintage condition with light wear consistent with age. The jade heads show natural patina, while the necklace as a whole remains stable and wearable. Patina has been left unpolished to preserve authenticity.
